Description
Mas del Périé – Fabien Jouves is a winery located on the highest slopes of Cahors. Its plots are cultivated biodynamically in order to fully respect nature, the vine and its surroundings. It is run by Fabien Jouves, a young winemaker who founded it in 2006 and who makes the wines naturally, without oenological contributions, and accompanying the wine until maturity, fermenting it and ageing it in concrete tanks, foudres and barrels.
In this region, Malbec (Côt) is the king of grape varietals. Located between Quercy and Cahors, Jouves wanted to choose parcels that could help him show a diverse range of Malbec expressions. Following biodynamic agriculture adds strength to his terroir by supporting the whole environment from the vines to the animals.
100% Malbec from 25-year old vines planted on clay-limestone soils.
The whole vinification process occurs naturally, without any additives. The wine is then aged until maturity, either in concrete tanks, barrels or large wooden vats (foudres), depending on the wine’s personality.
An expressive nose, with hints of blackberry, raspberry, some spices and milky touches. It is round and enveloping in the mouth, with a dense and velvety material accompanied by an explosion of fruit and freshness. It has a long finish with pleasant and long-lasting chalky and spicy notes.
James Suckling – 92 points
13 Dec, 2020 – Very attractively expressive blackberry and raspberry-coulis aromas with spicy elements, too. The palate has a very plush, slippery feel. So drinkable! Like a Beaujolais in its deep flavors and silky texture. 100% malbec. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink now.
Decanter – 91 points
Cahors is seeing a revival, partly thanks to Argentina for putting Malbec (locally known as Côt) on the map, but also to a new generation of producers who prefer a softer, juicier style to the traditional black tannic wine. This, from young vines, is fruity and deliciously refreshing, full of black fruit and spice.
