Since 1831, The Bichot family has been at the forefront of Burgundy wines. Over the course of 6 generations, the house style has become more and more refined and distinct in elegance.With Albéric Bichot at the helm since 1996, the house has focused its future on quality, minimal intervention winemaking and organic farming. The embodiment of this approach resulted in their 6 domaines being fully organically certified since 2018, while receiving praise and awards on the quality of the wines.

With its 50-hectare (123.5 acre) walled vineyard, 80 owners, a terroir discovered 9 centuries ago by Cistercian monks, a renowned brotherhood of wine enthusiasts (Confrérie du Tastevin)… Clos-de-Vougeot showcases everything that Burgundy is all about! But, let us not forget that Clos-de-Vougeot is first and foremost a highly unique terroir. Our plots connect the bottom to the top of the Clos. This allows combining the fruitiness, which is very typical of the lower part of the vineyard, with the structure that is characteristic of the upper part.

Soil – Brown limestone and calcic. Parcel size: 0.63 ha (1.5 acres). Situation: The upper parcel joins the lower parcel of the Clos on a gentle slope. Exposure: East/South-East. Average age of the vine: 35 years

Grape Variety – 100% Pinot Noir

Vatting – Temperature-controlled conical oak vats. Vatting time: 20 to 28 days

Ageing – In oak barrels 100%. Ageing time: 14 to 18 months. Proportion of new barrels: 60%

When young, our Clos-de-Vougeot develops a very complete and varied aromatic palette of wild red and black berries. With ageing, it evolves towards notes of light tobacco and tea. The palate is robust but not rustic, with a mentholated note that may be appreciated vintage after vintage.

Food Pairing – Try this Grand Cru with red meat dishes and roasted game. Also recommended with cheeses such as full-flavoured Epoisses or creamy Brillat-Savarin.

Serve between 15 and 17°C (59°F – 63°F). This wine may be cellared for 7 to 10 years or more.

Wine Enthusiast – 94 points

This is a rich wine from several parcels of vines in the Clos de Vougeot. It has great intensity, powered both by tannins and by the dark black fruits. Serious and concentrated, the wine will age magnificently. Drink from 2024.

Robert Parker Wine Advocate – 92-94 points

The 2014 Clos-de-Vougeot Grand Cru -Domaine du Clos Frantin has a well defined, airy, red cherry and bergamot-scented bouquet. The palate is crisp and fresh with fine tannin and well judged acidity. This is an elegant and classy Clos Vougeot witha harmonious, svelte finish that is very Vosne-like in style. It is one of Bichot’s best Grand Crus this year.

Burghound – 91-94 points

(from a .72 ha parcel). A moderately generous application of wood stops just short of fighting with the markedly earthy aromas of purple fruit, game anddis-creet spice elements. The sleek, rich and velvety medium weight plus flavors possess fine mid-palate concentration before culminating in a serious and muscular but not really austere finale. Again, ample patience will be required. 2029+

Displaying more maturity both on the nose and with a paler colour, the 2014 Clos du Vougeot displays dark cherry and liquorice characters, with spices and a hint of menthol on the nose. Lacks a little concentration in comparison to the 2015 and 2016, this is reaching its peak now. Drinking Window 2020 – 2028
