Description
Château Croix Mouton is positioned in the commune of Lugon, on the clay soils of ‘Ile de Carney’. The setting is bucolic with true rural charm, and during the harvest period we take in the early-morning sunrise over the misty Dordogne river from the winery. As the day passes, sail boats and cruisers occasionally glide past, punctuating the still calm.
Two of our chateaux are situated in the dynamic Bordeaux Supérieur appellation, on the edge of Fronsac. Possessing a majority of Merlot, the wines are full of character. They are fine and generous, showing off their magnificent silt and clay terroir, which provides wines that are excellent in their young years and please a wide audience. These are convivial wines, made to be shared.
“To celebrate my parents’ 25th anniversary and as a tribute to them, I created this exceptional cuvée. Of course, the « M » stands for Mouton, the toponym of our vineyard, but mostly for Marriage, Mom, and her first name, Marie. This wine is the fruit of years of labour – it will bring you joy, strength and love.” – Joseph Janoueix
Region : Bordeaux Superieur, France
Blend: 97% MERLOT / 2,5% CABERNET FRANC / 0,5% PETIT VERDOT
Croix Mouton produces wines intended for pleasure, and excellent while still young. Entirely Merlot driven, they are full bodied and rich in flavour, easy to drink but with finesse and a stunning display of fresh red fruit on the palate. After the release of its first vintage, Château Croix Mouton was very quickly recognised by Bordeaux wine experts as being excellent value for money.
James Suckling – 91-92 points
Lots of fruit for this appellation with ripe berries and chocolate and light coffee undertones. It’s full and flavorful. Round tannins.
Wine Advocate – 90 points
A strong value proposition, the 2020 Croix Mouton offers up aromas of cassis, cherries, cigar wrapper and violet. Medium-bodied, rich and fleshy, with a sweet core of fruit and powdery tannin, it outperforms its humble appellation.
