Description
Château Pibran, now under the guidance of Jean-Michel Cazes of Lynch-Bages, produces with good complexity, weight and concentration. Pibran is classified as a cru bourgeois but is now producing wines the equal of many of its more highly classified neighbours.
Its 9.5 hectares of vineyards stretch across a well-drained gravel bank and border those of Mouton-Rothschild, Lynch-Bages and Pontet Canet. They are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (60%), Merlot (25%), Cabernet Franc (10%) and Petit Verdot (5%).
The wines are vinified at Pichon-Baron. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and the wine is matured for 12-15 months in barriques (50% new).
Dark inky color, deep rich dark fruit nose, concentrated flavors of dark raspberries and cassis with noticeable elegant tannins.

This is a vivacious and very attractive, ripe Pauillac with aromas of ripe red plums, cherries and blackberries on offer. The palate has a plush, refined and suave array of very attractive, fine but dense tannins and the rich blackberries, plums and mulberries carry long and super fresh. Try from 2023.
Wine Spectator – 93 points
This has showy fruit, with dark plum, boysenberry and black currant compote flavors that are nicely melded, with freshness provided by licorice snap and violet notes. A really strong graphite edge drives the finish, with fine acidity playing an important supporting role along the way. Best from 2023 through 2038.

Loads of cassis, graphite, and pencil lead notes dominate the bouquet of the 2016 Château Pibran, which is deeply colored, full-bodied, and nicely textured on the palate. It’s another incredibly classy wine from the northern regions of the Médoc that has enough fruit and texture to offer pleasure today, yet will benefit from short-term cellaring and cruise in cold cellars.
Decanter – 90 points
Well-expressed, even Cabernet-Merlot blend showing crunchy black fruits. Clear and structured; will age well.
Wine Advocate – 90 points
Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2015 Pibran is a little reduced to begin, with black fruits and tar notions plus hints of dried herbs and chocolate. Medium-bodied with a great core of expressive fruit, it has grainy tannins and a refreshing finish.
Vinous – 90 points
The 2015 Pibran is ample, juicy and absolutely delicious, all qualities that make it an excellent choice for drinking now and over the next few years. Floral notes add lift to the racy, red stone fruit. The 2015 is an unusually polished, nuanced Pibran.
