Description
Cosme Palacio Reserva represents our way of interpreting the old Tempranillo vines of the Rioja Alavesa. It brings together the imprint of time in the Heritage Vineyard, a fresh and genuine personality and the ways of making tradition a legacy. Above all, it shines the style inherited from our founder: Exciting innovation, high class distinction since 1894.
A wine that expresses its Terroir to the fullest.
A very special and exclusive red, since its grapes have been selected from our best plots, with centuries-old low-yield vines and with a microclimate and unique characteristics. A reserve in which you will find the flavors of Rioja Alavesa, with an aroma of red fruits and a balanced touch of wood.
100% Tempranillo
Aged in French Oak barrels for 18 months, and a further 28 months in bottles before release.
The vines come from a selection of the best vineyards located in this municipality of Rioja Alavesa, at the foot of the Sierra de Cantabria, located in altitude, where Tempranillo grows optimally.
Altitude, Southerly orientation, calcareous-clay soils and the Sierra de Cantabria play a role in protecting from inclement weather, and provide an ideal environment for old, low yielding vines to showcase their full expression.
Cosme Palacio Reserva is of precious ruby colour with a slight tile edging. Intense and complex aromas, in which the memory of black fruits like plums and blackberries coexist with tones of maturity and the special register of the new oak wood, very suggestive. In the mouth it is balanced, deep, elegant and of great freshness, with a great persistence at the end, full of pleasant sensations.
Wine Enthusiast – 93 points
This deeply hued wine has a nose of cassis, raspberry and a pleasant hint of saddle leather. It is full on the palate, with plush tannins and flavors of fruits of the wood, oregano, dark chocolate and eucalyptus. The enduring finish is marked with notes of chocolate and mint.
James Suckling – 92 points
Racy and fruit-expressive nose with lots of redcurrants and ripe haw fruit, followed by hints of dark spices and pine cones. Fresh and firm on the palate, with vibrant acidity driving it to a fluid and juicy finish. Tight and fine-grained. Better in 2023.
