Description
Mas del Périé – Fabien Jouves is a winery located on the highest slopes of Cahors. Its plots are cultivated biodynamically in order to fully respect nature, the vine and its surroundings. It is run by Fabien Jouves, a young winemaker who founded it in 2006 and who makes the wines naturally, without oenological contributions, and accompanying the wine until maturity, fermenting it and ageing it in concrete tanks, foudres and barrels.
In this region, Malbec (Côt) is the king of grape varietals. Located between Quercy and Cahors, Jouves wanted to choose parcels that could help him show a diverse range of Malbec expressions. Following biodynamic agriculture adds strength to his terroir by supporting the whole environment from the vines to the animals.
100% Malbec from 25-year old vines planted on Kimmeridgian soils.
The whole vinification process occurs naturally, without any additives. The wine is then aged until maturity, either in concrete tanks, barrels or large wooden vats (foudres), depending on the wine’s personality. Les Escures is aged for 6 months in concrete tanks
Aromas of blackcurrant, cherry and blonde tobacco. The palate is direct, juicy, fine and piquant with medium and elegant tannins, tamed by a great finesse to allow for pure pleasure.
James Suckling – 94 points
Deep dark cherry, chocolate and violet, as well as blueberry and blackcurrant. The palate has a lacy, gently chalky feel with very elegant, centrally focused and finely layered tannins. Super fresh, bright and packed with flavor. So drinkable for the appellation. Modern and balanced. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold.
