Description
On March 26, 2015, American singer Lady Gaga uploaded a photo on her social media. In it, the singer was seen waiting for her fiancé with a glass of wine. The back label on the bottle read Alamos Malbec. Nothing more and nothing less than a great Argentine red wine.
Some years have passed since then. However, the quality of this red wine, produced by the Catena Zapata winery, is still extraordinary. It has a century of hard work and family tradition behind it; generation after generation, this family has been making wines in the province of Mendoza, in the region of Cuyo, in the central west of Argentina. Here the vineyards grow in a desert environment, at an altitude between 900 and 1,500 metres above sea level. Malbec, which is the most cultivated variety in the area, is hydrated thanks to the mineral-rich melt water that falls from the Andes. The berries are subjected to a wide range of temperatures, with some very cool temperatures and many hours of sunshine.
As Lady Gaga herself would say “Today is perfect so far”; and that’s true! With a bottle of Alamos Malbec.
100% Malbec – Mendoza, Argenina
Grown and harvested by hand, the Alamos Malbec grapes arrive at the winery to be destemmed and crushed. From here, the berries go directly to a three-day maceration at low temperature, where aromas and colour are extracted. This will help the alcoholic fermentation that takes place in vertical conical tanks for one week. During this time, there are various pumping-over processes to extract colour and flavour. However, the Alamos Malbec vinification process does not end here, as this red is transferred to French oak barrels, where it spends 6 to 8 months, and undergoes malolactic fermentation.
Alamos Malbec 2023 beckons us on an odyssey through vibrant flavours and scents. On the nose, it unfurls ripe plum and succulent blackberry notes, interwoven with hints of cinnamon and vanilla. Violets and aromatic herbs add a delightful freshness. Upon tasting, its youthful and exuberant profile emerges, with a subtle spicy undertone that accentuates its character. This Argentine Malbec is a genuine expression of fruit and spice, perfect for those seeking to uncover the essence of an approachable and vivacious red wine.
