Description

Talamonti is one of Italy’s most dynamic boutique wine producers. Founded in 2001 by husband-and-wife team Rodrigo Brian Redmont and Antonella Di Tonno, Tenuta Talamonti is a trailblazer in central Italy’s Abruzzo region.

Motivated by a tremendous passion for their local roots, the Redmont-Di Tonno family aim to share Abruzzo’s unique terroir and extraordinary microclimate with the world. They cultivate primarily native grape varieties over 75 hectares of Estate vineyards and Olive Groves in the pristine commune of Loreto Aprutino and practice winemaking centered on purity of varietal expression. As part of this mission, they’ve spearheaded the region’s shift away from a co-op, volume-centric system toward terroir-driven, premium, estate wine production.

OUR SUSTAINABLE LIFESTYLE

We began the path to sustainable farming and winemaking long ago. From our start, we have held the belief that growing the highest quality grapes and crafting the best wines possible can be only achieved through taking care of the land and our people. Our commitment to environmental stewardship, equitable treatment of our employees and supporting our local community is part of our DNA and certified by third party certifications. All our vineyards are certified SNQPI, the Italian National Certification program. Since 2015, our family has chosen to source energy exclusively from wind turbine farms and our own solar panels for 100% generation of the power needed to run the winery and bottling operations.

CERTIFICATIONS

All wines are certified Vegan. We have committed to developing a comprehensive inclusion and diversity plan to foster an environment in which every employee is contributing fully and able to win for themselves, Talamonti and our customers. We are also the first winery in the world to be certified for Diversity, GEEIS, since 2021.

The term Trabocchetto was selected for its historical importance to the Abruzzi’s fishing tradition. According to local historians, the Trabocco (or Trabucco) was a fishing innovation imported from the Middle East with literature references dating back to the 18th century. These ancient fishing machines were quickly adopted throughout the Adriatic Coast. Built exclusively out of wood, the construction permitted fisherman to fish in the worst of weather conditions. The Trabocco is a wooden platform that stretches out to the sea and is anchored to large rocks. Long arms or antennas soar above and sustain an enormous net called “Trabocchetto”.

Area of Production: Loreto Aprutino (PE)
Grape Varieties: Pecorino 100%
Soil: Limestone clay
Altitude: 300 meters above sea level
Training system: Guyot
Vineyard Planting Year: 2004-2011

Following a selective hand harvest in mid-September, the grape stalks are removed and the subsequent crushed, cold fermentation ensued by soft pressing and fermented with select yeast in temperature controlled stainless steel vats for 12 days at 16°C to preserve the natural 100% Pecorino fruit and inimitable freshness of the wine.

A brilliant pale straw color. A wonderful bouquet of white pulp fruit. Explosive flavors of white pear, renutta apple, ginestra flowers and jasmine accompanied by a gentle and refreshing acidity.

Drinkable today, it will age well for the next 4 years. Superb with gently grilled fish, vegetable tempura, oysters

James Suckling – 90 points

A juicy white that has aromas of chopped apples, pears and salted hazelnuts. It’s medium- to full-bodied,
creamy and tasty, with refreshing salty undertones. Vegan. Drink now.

Wine Advocate – 90 points (2021)

With a fun image of an octopus in a fishing net on the front label, the unoaked Talamonti 2021 Abruzzo Pecorino Superiore Trabocchetto is easy drinking and one of those fresh white wines that certainly sparks an appetite for a seaside lunch. The wine has crisp flavors and sharp lines with apple, sweet almond and preserved lemon. There is salty mineral as well.

Talamonti recently acquired an additional 15 hectares in Scanella (Loreto Aprutino) with old vines of Pecorino and Montepulciano. In other news, this estate has recently upgraded its wines to higher denominations (like the recently created Abruzzo DOC or Riserva status). A new winemaking director named Paolo Benassi was hired four years ago, and lastly, the estate bought an old palace in Loreto Aprutino that is being restored for visitors.
